About kiki

First off, why Happy Like a Lark Ceremonies? Well, my father was German and if something made him happy, he would say he was "happy like a lark." The idiom wasn't quite correct - I mean, English wasn't his first language, after all - but the sentiment of finding happiness in simple things always resonated with me. My father passed away in 2001 and this is my way of honoring his memory.

RANDOM FACTS YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT ME

I'm 4’10”. Yes, I'm VERY short.

My crowning achievement I am most proud of are the two daughters I have raised.

My dog, Sal, is the canine love of my life.

I still don’t have any tattoos, but I am working on it!

I lived in Germany for a year during high school and I speak German fairly fluently.

My favorite color is iridescent. But if you force me to choose a "real" color I would pick turquoise, lime green, fuchsia, and orange, because life is too short for ONE favorite color!

I LOVE candy - I try not to but I just can’t help myself! Red Hots are my favorite and I also love black licorice. You just made a face, didn't you??! Ya either love it or ya hate it. I think it's a Nurture thing - if you grew up with it, then you love it, but if you were exposed late in life, then you can't stand it.

I do not drink alcohol and I’ve never - not once - ever done drugs. I’m not a prude, I just happen to be a very rare unicorn.

I appear to have a magnetic personality with strangers coming up to me and telling me the most bafflingly personal stories. I don't mind, it just surprises me every time. This counts for kids in parks, too. Random children just walk right up to me and start telling me things.

I love fun couples who aren't afraid to break the rules

Listen. I’m not for everyone. And that’s ok. Here’s a guide to help you decide if we might be a good fit:

You probably are NOT my ideal client if…..

You want a traditional wedding ceremony.

You want a religious ceremony. Not gonna happen with me.

You don't like to stand out.

You want a standard 15 minute ceremony, with no love story or personalizations.

If you want to walk down the aisle to some Pachelbel’s Canon or Mendelsohn, I’m probably not your girl.

You probably ARE my ideal client if…..

White wedding dresses give you hives.*

You plan on getting married at a super cool venue.

You want unusual music choices.

You want a ceremony that includes your dog - OMG PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE include your dog. I love dogs! Or a miniature horse. Hell, yes. Or a llama. Even a chicken. I love animals.

You're still reading this!!!

You really just want to celebrate your love in an unconventional manner that really personifies who you two are!

* I'm just kidding about the white wedding dress! I only put that in to be silly.

My point is that you are looking for the unusual and not the same old cookie cutter wedding.

My Philosophy

  • I believe in the diversity of love in all its forms and that love knows no bounds – no restrictions on sexual orientation, gender identity, race, or color. I'm a proud supporter of Marriage Equality.

  • I believe that you deserve a wedding ceremony that is a reflection of who you are as a couple – your quirks, your passions, your dreams.

  • I believe that we should say goodbye to cookie cutter weddings! Say hello to non-traditional, unconventional, and alternative. Be a flamingo in a flock of brides!

  • I believe that weddings don’t have to be boring, don’t have to feel like you’re in a library, or cause your guests’ eyes to glaze over.

  • I believe that you invited guests for a reason and that they should be acknowledged and cherished for their important contributions in shaping who you both have become.

  • I believe that weddings are not just about the union of two individuals but the merging of two families, two cultures, and two hearts.

Education

I take being a Wedding Officiant very seriously. To that end, I have taken quite a few trainings that I felt would either help me on the Officiating end of things or on the business side. I include this to show you that I consider this a profession, not a hobby or a side hustle and that I have invested in myself to improve my offerings.

Furthermore, I read extensively on subjects in any way related to business, weddings, and officiating. I also attend Toastmasters meetings and go to webinars, seminars, and conferences as continuing education.
